Beam Expands Fleet with Quantum EV and Xplorer Vessels

At Beam, we continue to push the boundaries of innovation in offshore wind. We’re reinforcing our commitment to driving the global energy transition with the recent addition of two Xplorer autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) and a Quantum EV electric work-class ROV. These cutting-edge vessels are key to accelerating offshore wind development and ensuring the sector becomes more reliable, efficient, and cost-effective.

The £15m investment in these new technologies is a significant step forward as we expand our capabilities across the lifecycle of offshore wind farms—from site characterisation and operations & maintenance (O&M) to decommissioning. As the offshore wind industry strives to replace oil and gas, our advanced fleet will help lead the charge.

Enhancing Efficiency with Autonomous Xplorers

The Xplorer ASVs are designed to execute a wide range of tasks autonomously, with their large aft decks enabling them to carry high payloads. Fitted with intelligent stabilisers, these vessels minimise unwanted movement, optimising data collection even in challenging conditions.

What truly sets Xplorer apart is its ability to operate autonomously while deploying advanced AI models for real-time data collection and transmission to shore. This innovative approach enhances operational efficiency and ensures rapid data processing, allowing for more streamlined project timelines.

Quantum EV: A Game-Changer for Subsea Projects

Our new Quantum EV ROV is a high-performance electric vehicle that surpasses conventional work-class ROVs in agility and energy efficiency. Lighter and more adaptable, it is particularly suited for high-current, shallow-water operations, offering Beam the ability to operate in difficult conditions while reducing project costs and environmental impact.

By integrating the Quantum EV with our fully autonomous technology stack, we’re able to extend operating windows, reduce energy consumption, and lower contamination risks—delivering high-quality results at a fraction of the cost.

Supporting Global Offshore Wind Growth

As part of our expansion, we are set to hire over 150 technology specialists across our UK offices in Bristol, Aberdeen, and Edinburgh over the next year. Globally, Beam will recruit 50 new employees to support international projects, including positions in the US and Asia.

These additions will empower us to deliver innovative offshore solutions at a faster pace and lower costs, ultimately driving greater profitability for wind farm operators and contributing to the broader energy transition.

Joe Tidball, Co-Founder & Executive Vice President for Service Innovation at Beam:

“This investment underscores our commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to deliver superior services and drive the growth of renewable energy worldwide.”

Marc Coull, Programme Director – Service Delivery, adds:

“At Beam, we’re committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in offshore wind operations; the addition of Xplorer autonomous surface vessels to our fleet marks a significant step forward in this mission.”

Paving the Way for a Sustainable Future

As Beam continues to expand its fleet and invest in advanced technology, we are more equipped than ever to support offshore wind projects through every phase. By reducing costs, improving operational efficiency, and minimising environmental impact, we are driving real progress in the global shift towards renewable energy.

With the Quantum EV and Xplorer vessels, we’re not only advancing the capabilities of offshore wind but also reinforcing our vision for a world less reliant on hydrocarbons. As the sector evolves, Beam will remain at the forefront, pioneering the innovations needed to make offshore wind the leading force in the energy transition.
